After practice yesterday, I had a pretty relaxing night. It really feels good to just be able to relax after a tiring day like we had yesterday. I watched Hot Tub Time Machine with my Miami teammate, Chris Joyaux, and [Caps prospect] Taylor Stefishen. We got some good laughs in there. After the movie, we had some salmon for dinner, which was really good. I got to bed around 11:30 p.m., I wanted it to be earlier, but I was able to get some good rest in for today.

This morning we got up around 7:15 a.m., took a shower, went to breakfast and then came to the rink for a stretch at 8:30 a.m. After that I got a good work out in and then came out on the ice for a good skate – getting ready for tomorrow’s game.

Practice was good, but we messed up a few of the drills. We weren’t that sharp today, but hopefully Team White can come out with a better effort tomorrow. All in all though, practice was good and we’re getting better and better each time we hit the ice.

This afternoon we have a session with the strength and conditioning coach, Mark Nemish, talking about eating healthy and stuff like that. That should be interesting and really informational. Besides that, we have the rest of the afternoon off.

Tonight I’m going to relax a bit, maybe go catch a movie. One of my Miami teammates, Jay Williams, lives around here, so I may give him a call and see what he’s up to and maybe he’ll come hang out at the hotel with us.

After practice yesterday, we went back to the hotel and had a good meal of chicken and beef with all the guys. Once dinner ended, some of the guys and I went back to my room and we watched the movie Salt. It’s one of my favorite movies.

I knew I had to be up early today so I went to bed around 10:30 pm or 11:00 pm and got a good night’s sleep. This morning I woke up around 7:00 am and went downstairs for a quick breakfast and then walked over to the rink.

Once I got to the rink I taped my sticks up, stretched and got everything ready for practice. Practice was really good this morning. It was a pretty fast-tempo practice and a little longer than yesterday. Now we have a work out and then we’re done for the day. I don’t really know what my agenda for tonight is yet, but hopefully I’ll figure out something fun to do. I can’t wait for tomorrow’s scrimmage.

I flew in from Winnipeg around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. I got a flight with [other camp attendees] Jaynen Rissling, Stephane Legualt and Tyler Lewington. When we got in we went to a Nationals game, which was pretty cool. It was a great experience seeing Bryce Harper. He’s a really good player.

We went home from there on Saturday night and got a good night of sleep. We came in on Sunday, checked in, got all of my gear, had a good breakfast at the hotel and then had fitness testing, which went really well. They were good tests. It went pretty long but it was pretty good too. After fitness testing, I had a good dinner at Noodles and Co. with a few of the guys and then we went to the movie, The Heat, which was a pretty funny movie and was also some good bonding time with the boys. We got back to the hotel around 9:30 p.m. last night and got a good night sleep.

This morning, I had another really big breakfast and then got ready for the on-ice testing, which was pretty good and pretty fast paced. I like skating a lot so the testing was really good for me. After the on-ice testing this morning, I had a good meal, went back to my room and watched some NHL Network, took a little nap and then came back and had a pretty fun, high-paced practice.

This summer I’m based out in Winnipeg and have been working out every day with a good group of guys. I think I’m in really good shape so that’s pretty good. We’re on the ice about twice a week, so I’m definitely well prepared for this camp and so far it’s paying off.

I came in yesterday morning. I drove here from Michigan, where I live now to train, and stopped at my grandparents’ house in Pittsburgh, where I am originally from, for one night. [Once I arrived in D.C.] I came in and went through all the testing, which took pretty long, and then finally had dinner after a while and went to bed early.

[My roommate for the trip is] Brandon Tanev from Providence [College]. I didn’t know him before camp, but we’ve been hitting it off pretty well so far.

The first day of camp was a lot of fun. It’s really exciting, a lot of new faces, good to come in here and see the facility. I think the drills are great, and seeing that a lot of us haven’t practiced in over a couple months, it’s good to get back to high tempo drills and get in a good sweat.

This summer’s been great. I went to the Caribbean for a week, which was my first vacation in a long time. Other than that I’ve mostly just been training. I went back to school for six weeks and took a class, but now I’m back home for the rest of the summer just working out, going out on the boat and hanging out.
