Fans Select Walt Whitman vs. Winston Churchill as Capitals High School Game of the Week
High school hockey is thriving in the DMV with more than 100 teams populating the three leagues in the area. The Washington Capitals are partnering with the Mid-Atlantic Prep Hockey League (MAPHL), Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League (NVSHL) and the Maryland Student Hockey League (MSHL) to promote amateur hockey in the Virginia, Maryland and D.C. area.
To kick off the high school season teams, friends, family and fans were given the opportunity to vote on which of the three nominated high school matchups from D.C., Maryland or Virginia would have their game covered by the Capitals. The Walt Whitman vs. Winston Churchill matchup on Friday, Nov. 30, received the most votes and will be covered by the Capitals, who will produce a segment featuring highlights, analysis and interviews of both schools.
Each week the Capitals will highlight standout teams, players and coaches from each of the three local leagues in the Capitals Amateur Hockey Roundup.
