ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals will host their tenth annual Salute to the Military Night on Thursday, April 4 during the game against the New York Islanders at Verizon Center. Salute to the Military Night is a special evening dedicated to honoring the men and women who have served the country in the armed forces.
With the support of corporate sponsors the Capitals have provided thousands of complimentary tickets to military personnel and their dependents over the course of the ten-year program.
The Capitals will pay tribute to the military throughout the evening through in-game and intermission activities. During pre-game warm-ups the Capitals will wear camouflage jerseys, which will be signed and auctioned off during the game at section 109. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to anyone who has suffered the loss of a military loved one.
Military personnel will staff recruiting booths throughout Verizon Center where fans can pick up information on the branches of service. The U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs, which helps service members transition into civilian life following combat, also will be represented. The first intermission will feature a mites on ice group from the Navy Youth Hockey Association while the second intermission will feature the USA Warriors hockey team.
In addition, Courage Caps and T-shirts will be sold starting at $20 at tables at sections 104, 113 and 405 on the concourse and at the Team Store and stands throughout Verizon Center. For the second-consecutive season Courage Caps are sponsored by SKYDEX Technologies, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit TAPS.
