Capitals Sign Chris Conner

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed right wing Chris Conner to a one-year, two-way contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Conner, 30, has registered 50 points (22 goals, 28 assists) and 34 penalty minutes in 178 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Detroit and Dallas. The 5’8”, 190-pound right wing played in 19 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, recording five points (four goals, one assist) and two penalty minutes. Conner appeared in a career-high 60 games with the Penguins during the 2010-11 campaign and set career highs in goals (7), assists (9), points (16) and game-winning goals (3).

The Westland, Mich., native has earned 278 points (107 goals, 171 assists) and 132 penalty minutes in 352 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Portland, Grand Rapids, Peoria and Iowa. Conner collected 11 points (six goals, five assists) and eight penalty minutes in 17 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season. He played four seasons at Michigan Tech from 2002-06 and twice led the team in scoring (2003-04, 2005-06). Conner was named to 2004 WCHA

Second All-Star Team and finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in shorthanded goals (9).
