Pothier To Visit Winners Of Capitals' Reading Is Cool Program

ARLINGTON, Va. – May 22, 2007 – Washington Capitals defenseman Brian Pothier and mascot Slapshot will visit Lemore Amir’s third-grade class at John Adams Elementary School in Alexandria, Va., on Wednesday, May 23, from 1-2:30 p.m., to celebrate the class’ victory in the Capitals’ Reading Is Cool contest, presented by Chevy Chase Bank. The group of 18 third graders read more than 4,000 books during January and February.
 
The Washington Capitals created the Reading Is Cool program to encourage students to develop essential reading habits while also demonstrating the importance of working as a team towards a common goal. This year more than 200 classes comprising 5,010 third-, fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students participated in the Reading Is Cool program from Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland.
