Olie Kolzig plays tug-of-war at KEEN event
Washington Capitals goaltender Olie Kolzig attended the Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN) Greater D.C. Sports Festival on Sunday, June 3, at Hadley’s Park in Potomac, Md. Despite the rain, hundreds of athletes and volunteers showed up to participate in the sixth-annual event, enjoying an afternoon of fun and games.

Kolzig signed autographs and took pictures with special athletes, volunteers and staff; participated in a giant game of tug-of-war; and presented medals to all of the athletes during prouds. Prouds is the traditional recognition portion of the event, where each athlete shares with the rest of the group what they were proud of doing during the sports festival.

“This was a great event,” said Kolzig. “I’m impressed that so many people braved the elements to come out and participate. It just goes to show what a great organization KEEN is.”

KEEN is an organization devoted to providing free recreational programs to young people with disabilities such as autism and cerebral palsy throughout D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The Sports Festival is the one time each year that athletes, families and volunteers celebrate together.
