Capitals Launch Courage Caps at Annual Visit to Children's National Medical Center
The entire team, chairman and majority owner Ted Leonsis and partner Raul Fernandez were at the hospital for the press conference announcing the new campaign. The team did a craft project with children in the atrium and then visited with patients, signed autographs and distributed the new Courage Caps.
Courage Caps are team-issued and branded hats that will be sold throughout the season at Capitals home games and online at WashingtonCaps.com and NHL.com. Hats will be available for purchase for $20 starting on Oct. 26 and 100% of the sale price will benefit CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit based in Bethesda and an NHL charitable partner that focuses on raising funds for the Children’s Oncology Group, the world’s largest cooperative cancer research organization that treats 90% of children with cancer.
“Courage from a hockey standpoint does not compare with the courage these kids show on a daily basis,” said captain Chris Clark. “Hopefully this new Courage Caps program will not only raise funds for research, but will also help bring awareness to these kids.
“This visit is something we do every year and it is something I would not miss. Even if they do not know us, they know something special is coming and it breaks up their day. Kids are great because they can smile through a lot of things and this is one of them.”
Courage Caps will be sold at the community relations table at Capitals home games and online at WashingtonCaps.com. There will also be a limited number of autographed Courage Caps available for $30 and $50.
