Trading Places

Nicklas Backstrom and Slapshot of the Washington Capitals traded places with Southwest Airlines employees on Oct. 16

Today was not just another day at the rink for five members of the Washington Capitals. Instead of practicing at Kettler Capitals Iceplex like most weekday afternoons, captain Chris Clark, Donald Brashear, Matt Bradley, Mike Green and Nicklas Backstrom were at BWI Airport trading places with employees of Southwest Airlines, the official airline of the Washington Capitals.
 
The group of players signed autographs for Southwest customers and helped passengers board their respective flights out of Baltimore. The group also received a unique tour behind the scenes at the airport and got the chance to marshall flights on the tarmac and load bags onto aircrafts.
 
Capitals defenseman Mike Green took advantage of his day at BWI and really enjoyed the activities.
 
“I brought in a plane and I got to see what happened as far as behind the scenes with the operations of the airport, luggage and bagging,” said Green. “I got to scan some tickets and sign some autographs. We went in the cockpit for awhile and visualized what it would be like to fly a plane. It was pretty cool.”
