Donations to benefit Capital Area Food Bank
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals, 3WT and the Capital Area Food Bank are teaming up to host a canned food drive at the Caps game Friday, Nov. 2, against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Capitals players’ wives and girlfriends will be accepting donations at the F Street Entrance to Verizon Center beginning when doors open at 6 p.m. The first 2,000 fans to donate will receive a Chris Clark poster. The Capitals, 3WT and the Capital Area Food Bank urge all Caps fans to donate at least one can of food to help end hunger in the Washington metropolitan area.
“It’s really important to do our part and help out where we can,” said Captains captain Chris Clark, team spokesman for the canned food drive. “Our fans are generous. Hosting a drive like this at Verizon Center gives them a chance to get involved in a great cause. Dropping off an extra can of food is something simple we can do to make our community a better place and help those who need it.”
All donations benefit the Capital Area Food Bank, the largest public nonprofit food and nutrition resource in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Last year, the Capital Area Food Bank distributed 20 million pounds of food, including six million pounds of fresh produce, to more than 700 partner agencies. The Capital Area Food Bank has served the National Capital region for 27 years.
