Caps Hockey School Goes to Lime Kiln Middle School
The Washington Capitals Hockey School presented by Chevy Chase Bank continues this season with a visit to Lime Kiln Middle School in Fulton, MD. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, Capitals representatives visited the school, teaching 75 sixth-grade students how to play hockey.

During the two-hour session, students received instruction from Tom Hendrix, general manager of The Gardens Ice House, a Capitals platinum-level rink partner, along with two members of their coaching staff. Capitals Mascot Slapshot was also on hand to excite the students and partake in the activities.

The Hockey School clinic focused on teaching each student the basic skills of hockey, including proper stickhandling, passing and shooting techniques. Students also had the opportunity to examine authentic hockey equipment, including gloves and pads. The session concluded with students participating in a scrimmage.

To designate them as graduates of Hockey School, all students who participated in the clinic received a Caps Hockey 101 booklet, an autographed player card, a squishy puck and a pocket schedule as well as a Chevy Chase Bank backpack and calculator.

With its success last season, the Washington Capitals Hockey School has returned this year with the focus of expanding into Washington, D.C., metropolitan area middle schools. Hockey School is designed to be both instructional and interactive, with the goal of exposing students to hockey and teaching proper technique.
