ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals left wing Tomas Fleischmann, defenseman Milan Jurcina, assistant coach Dean Evason and Slapshot visited Monocacy Middle School in Frederick, Md., this afternoon, Friday, Feb. 6, to host the Capitals Hockey School presented by Chevy Chase Bank. The trio began the session fielding questions from students in the middle school’s gym before directing a floor hockey session with the 150 excited sixth graders.

Led by Evason, Fleischmann and Jurcina instructed the students about puck-handling, passing and shooting, before hosting a skills competition. Following the competition, students scrimmaged with the pair of players. The hour-long program concluded with the Capitals donating a set of floor hockey equipment to the school.

“The students were really excited and loud, I had a good time,” Fleischmann said.  All students who participated in the session received autographed player cards from Fleischmann and Jurcina.

To designate them as graduates of Hockey School, all students who participated in the clinic received a Caps Hockey 101 booklet, a squishy puck and a pocket schedule as well as a Chevy Chase Bank backpack and calculator.

With its success last season, the Washington Capitals Hockey School has returned this year with the focus of expanding into Washington, D.C., metropolitan area middle schools. Hockey School is designed to be both instructional and interactive, with the goal of exposing students to hockey and teaching proper technique.
