March Winners of Caps Care Click to Win

Wednesday, 03.25.2009 / 2:55 PM / Community
The Washington Capitals have announced the March winners for the 2008-09 Caps Care Click to Win initiative. Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, Va., Baldwin Elementary School in Manassas, Va., Strathmore Elementary School in Silver Spring, Md. and Relay Elementary School in Baltimore, Md., were each selected to receive a $500 grant from Washington Capitals Charities.

All four schools were asked to supply a photo with a caption of their school “Rocking the Red.” From March 16-23, the photos and captions were posted in an online poll on WashingtonCaps.com for fans to vote for the school they thought had the most school spirit. The Capitals would like to congratulate Baldwin Elementary School on receiving the highest percentage of votes. Baldwin Elementary School has won a $1,000 grant from Washington Capitals Charities. With the money Baldwin Elementary School had already won for being selected, this brings the grand total of its Caps Care Click to Win grant to $1,500.

Due to limited ticket inventory, the Capitals have put a new twist on the team’s Click to Win program for the remaining portion of the season. The Capitals will select five schools in March, April and May to receive $500 grants. Those schools will be asked to submit a photo with a descriptive caption of their school “Rocking the Red” and showing their Caps spirit. The Capitals will then post the photos in an online poll on WashingtonCaps.com where fans will be able to vote for the school they think has the most Caps spirit. The school that has the highest percentage of votes will receive an additional $1,000 grant from Washington Capitals Charities.

Caps Care Click to Win is back for its second season, again giving local schools the chance to win free Capitals tickets and cash prizes. The program is part of the team’s commitment to introduce area youth to hockey and to support local schools with charitable contributions.
