Mike Green Visits Miracle on 7th

Wednesday, 12.26.2007 / 3:39 PM / Community
For the second straight year, Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green spent Christmas day with underprivileged children and their families at District ChopHouse and Brewery’s Miracle on Seventh Street in downtown Washington, D.C. The District ChopHouse & Brewery worked through the Rock Bottom Foundation and partnered with Washington-area nonprofit organizations for its fifth annual Miracle on Seventh Street event, and the Capitals have participated in all five.

On Christmas day the ChopHouse served more than 400 people a traditional Christmas meal of roast turkey, ham, vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cookies. Children at the event met and took photos with Santa Claus, participated in an arts and craft project and got their faces painted. All of the families were presented with Christmas gifts including toys that Caps fans donated at the team’s Toys for Tots toy drive on Dec. 14.

Green spent his time at Miracle talking to the volunteers and families in the dining room, signing autographs, handing out his player cards and taking photos with the guests.

“I think I recruited some new Caps fans,” Green joked. “This is my second time at this event, and I always enjoy it. It feels great to see these families in such good spirits on Christmas. I’m glad that I’ve been able to come out here and spend time with them on such a special day.”
