Olie Kolzig gets in the holiday spirit at The Children?s Inn at NIH
On Dec. 18 Caps goaltender Olie Kolzig visited with patients at The Children’s Inn at NIH in Bethesda, Md. Kolzig took part in the Inn’s Magic Holiday Event, signing autographs, taking pictures with patients and passing out Hockey Fights Cancer fleece blankets donated by the National Hockey League. Kolzig, a sports ambassador for The Inn, also sat with Santa and listened as the patients and their siblings shared their holiday wishes.
“It’s great to come out and spread some holiday cheer,” said Kolzig. “I was glad that I could participate in the festivities and bring some smiles to these kids’ faces.”
Along with the visit from Kolzig and Santa, The Inn’s patients and their families were treated to dinner, entertainment and free haircuts, massages and makeovers as part of this holiday event.
Kolzig is one of six professional athletes in the D.C. area taking part in The Children’s Inn’s Sports Ambassadors program. Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell, Mystics guard Alana Beard, Nationals reliever Chad Cordero, Wizard’s forward Caron Butler and D.C. United’s Christian Gomez are each members of the Sports Ambassadors initiative, which encourages people to donate to the “$93-A-Night” effort to house families at The Inn.
