Capitals’ Eighth Annual Toys for Tots Drive Raises $1,983 for Charity

The Washington Capitals teamed up with Comcast SportsNet, Elliot in the Morning, DC101 and the Marine Corps Reserve to host their eighth annual Toys for Tots toy drive on Friday, Dec. 14, at Verizon Center. Thanks to generous donations by Caps fans, the event was an overwhelming success.

“Without the Washington Capitals and people like them, the Toys for Tots campaign would not be as successful as it is,” said Staff Sergeant Johnny Noble. “Every year we receive more toys and donations at the Capitals game. We look forward to teaming up with the Caps for many years to come.”

Fans filled a 30-foot box truck with new, unwrapped toys and more than $1,900 was collected in donations. One Capitals fan generously brought with him to the game a $1,000 check made out to the Toys for Tots Foundation. Every fan who donated a toy received an Olie Kolzig poster and a special discounted ticket offer.

Players’ and coaches’ families also got involved in the annual holiday toy drive. Gwen Pothier, wife of Caps defenseman Brian Pothier, helped collect toys with interim head coach Bruce Boudreau’s wife, Crystal, and son, Brady. Team captain Chris Clark met and took pictures with the Marines collecting toys.

All toys collected at the drive will be donated to Miracle on Seventh Street at the District ChopHouse. Visit ChopHouse.com for more details and donation information.
