Howard Huskies get Coached by a Cap
Washington Capitals defenseman Milan Jurcina attended the Howard Huskies Squirts Silver hockey practice at Columbia Ice Rink in Columbia, Md., on Jan. 7. The Huskies won Jurcina’s visit through the Coached by a Cap program, a new amateur-hockey initiative created by the Capitals this season.

Jurcina braved Washington area rush-hour traffic and 90-minute commute to skate with the team of nine- and 10-year-old boys and girls. During the practice, Jurcina participated in the team drills and scrimmages. He also took a team photo with the mites, who were sharing the ice with the squirts.

“I heard the Huskies will be coming out to our game against Edmonton next week,” said Jurcina. “Hopefully I made a few new fans and they’ll cheer really loudly for us.”

At the end of practice Jurcina answered questions for the Huskies, passed out goody bags, signed autographs and took pictures with the players and families at the rink.

Coached by a Cap is part of the Capitals’ Pucks to Bucks group sales fundraising program. Open to teams of all ages in the Washington, D.C., area, this program gives teams the opportunity to raise money for their team and get firsthand guidance from a Washington Capital.

Forwards Chris Clark, Matt Pettinger and Tomas Fleischmann and defenseman Jeff Schultz have all taken part in Coached by a Cap this season. To find out more about Coached by a Cap, visit WashingtonCaps.com or contact Tim Bronaugh at 202.266.2341 or tbronaugh@washcaps.com.
