Tomas Fleischmann Named to Czech Republic\u2019s Olympic Team
ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals left wing Tomas Fleischmann will represent the Czech Republic at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia. Czech Republic head coach Vladimir Ruzicka announced his team’s 23-man roster today that includes 16 current NHL players. The Czech Republic won the bronze medal in the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.

Fleischmann, 25, will be making his first Olympic appearance. The 6’1”, 192-pound native of Koprivinice, Czech Republic, leads in the NHL in shooting percentage with 14 goals on 56 shots (25%). He ranks sixth among Czech-born NHL players with 24 points (14 goals, 10 assists) in 28 games played.

After missing the first 11 games of the season recovering from deep vein thrombosis in his leg, Fleischmann returned on Oct. 29 at Atlanta. In his second game back, and first on home ice, he recorded two goals in a 4-3 overtime loss against the New York Islanders on Oct. 30, beginning a career-long nine-game point streak.

Fleischmann has previously represented his country in two major international events, the 2003 and 2004 World Junior Championships.

Fleischmann will join at least four teammates in Vancouver, as Nicklas Backstrom was named to the Swedish team on Sunday, and Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Semyon Varlamov were named to the Russian team on Dec. 24.
