December Winners of Caps License Plates Program Contest

The Washington Capitals have announced the December winners in the Caps License Plates Program contest. Valeri Beck of New Market, Md. and Sharon Hawkins of Fairfax, Va., were each selected to receive a puck autographed by goalie Semyon Varlamov.

Beck and Hawkins entered the contest by submitting a Caps license plate application, payment and a short response on what makes them a Caps fan.

License plates are available in Maryland for a $50 one-time fee. More than 650 license plates have been issued in Maryland, and more than $27,000 has been raised for Washington Capitals Charities since the Caps Maryland license plate launched in September 2008.

In Virginia, the Capitals are awaiting approval by the House of Delegates and Senate on the bills to establish the special license plate. If the bills pass, the Capitals will then work with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to develop the license plate, including receiving approval of the plate design. At the earliest, plates will be issued during the second half of next season.

At the milestone of 1,000 Caps Virginia license plates purchased, a portion of the proceeds from the $25 annual fee (or $35 annual fee for personalized plates) will benefit Washington Capitals Charities.
