License Plate To Be Established in Virginia

Thursday, 05.13.2010 / 9:59 AM / Community
The Washington Capitals received confirmation from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that the license plate has been authorized in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The bill in the General Assembly which included the Caps Virginia license plate was approved by the Senate and House of Delegates and recently signed off on by the Governor.

The Capitals are focusing on the next steps in the standard process to make available a special license plate as stipulated by the DMV. Artwork for the proposed design of the Caps license plate will be submitted to the DMV for a metal prototype and approval. At the same time, prepaid applications received by the Capitals to-date will be checked to ensure that they are current and complete.

Capitals fans in Virginia have until June 1, 2010, to submit a prepaid application in order to be included in the initial batch submitted to and processed by the DMV. After that date, fans will have to wait until the Caps license plate is available for purchase at DMV locations next season.

Fans who have previously submitted a license plate application that requires updates must contact the Caps License Plates Program immediately. All applications that the Capitals provide to the DMV must be current. Any application that cannot be processed by the DMV will be returned to the Capitals. The Capitals will then contact the applicant and resubmit a revised application.

The Caps License Plates Program can be reached via email at CapsLicensePlates@washcaps.com or by phone at 202-266-2200. You may also visit WashingtonCaps.com/licenseplate. Please contact the Caps License Plates Program if you would like to make changes to the prepaid application you submitted.

At the milestone of 1,000 Caps Virginia license plates purchased, a portion of the proceeds from the $25 annual fee (or $35 annual fee for personalized plates) will benefit Washington Capitals Charities.

Created in 2000, Washington Capitals Charities offers unique resources and programs to other charities and organizations on behalf of the Washington Capitals.
