April Winners of Caps Care Click to Win

The Washington Capitals would like to recognize the April winners for the 2009-10 Caps Care Click to Win initiative. Arlington Traditional School in Arlington, Va., Claremont Immersion Elementary School in Arlington, Va., Coles Elementary School in Manassas, Va., Old Bridge Elementary School in Woodbridge, Va. and Saint Ambrose School in Annandale, Va., were each selected to receive a $500 grant from Washington Capitals Charities.

All five schools registered for this season’s Caps Care Click to Win program and submitted a photo with a caption of their school “Rocking the Red.” From May 12-May 19, the photos and captions were posted in an online poll on WashingtonCaps.com for fans to vote for the school they thought had the most school spirit. The Capitals would like to congratulate Coles Elementary School on receiving the highest percentage of votes. Coles Elementary School has won a $1,000 grant from Washington Capitals Charities. With the money Coles Elementary School had already won for being selected, this brings the grand total of its Caps Care Click to Win grant to $1,500. 

Caps Care Click to Win has completed its third season, giving local schools the chance to win cash prizes, a Caps player visit, a team mascot visit and Caps autographed memorabilia. Since the inception of the program, Washington Capitals Charities has donated $73,500 to 100 local schools. During the 2009-10 season $24,500 was donated to 35 schools throughout the Washington metropolitan area.

Schools are invited to register once during the season at WashingtonCaps.com by submitting a photo with a descriptive caption of their students “Rocking the Red” and showing their Caps spirit. Each month during the season five schools will have their photos posted on WashingtonCaps.com. Those schools each will receive a $500 grant from Washington Capitals Charities. Students, school faculty and fans will then be able to vote for the school they think is most deserving of an additional $1,000 grant. The school with the most votes each month will win a total of $1,500.

At the conclusion of the program, the school with the most votes overall will also receive a player visit and a Capitals team-signed jersey to be displayed in the school.
