ARLINGTON, VA. – The Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Brian Fahey to a one-year contract and left wing Kyle Greentree to a two-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

A 6’1”, 215-pound native of Des Plaines, Illinois, Fahey is a seventh-year professional who played last season with Lake Erie in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he had 11 goals and 25 points in 71 games. His most successful campaign came in 2007-08 with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL where he recorded 14 goals, 37 points and 123 penalty minutes in 76 regular-season games before recording eight assists and 10 points in 24 playoff games en route to a Calder Cup championship.

Fahey, 29, was drafted in the fourth round, 119th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Prior to turning professional the 29-year-old Fahey played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin, where he recorded 42 points in 156 games and was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team in 2000.

Greentree, a Victoria, British Columbia native, led the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs with 25 goals in 64 games last season. The 6’3”, 215-pound left wing has played four games in the NHL, two with Philadelphia in 2007-08 and two with Calgary in 2008-09. Two years ago Greentree ranked second in the AHL with 39 goals – trailing only Hershey’s Alexandre Giroux – in his second full AHL season.

The 26-year-old Greentree turned professional in 2006-07 after playing three seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, where he led the team in points all three seasons. He ended his collegiate career with 41 goals and 101 points in 115 games.
