ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals introduced hockey to kids ages 6-14 with Sticks and Sneakers presented by Dasani on Nov. 4 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. There were 120 kids in attendance for the Kids Club exclusive event. The evening was divided up into four different sessions with each kid spending 20 minutes at each session.

The first session consisted of two on ice demonstrations with Caps forwards Eric Fehr and D.J. King. Fehr taught the kids how to shoot the puck, while King taught the kids how to pass the puck.

The second session, in the Caps theatre room, had Capitals assistant coach Dean Evason breaking down some of Caps’ game tapes to show the kids different rules of hockey. Evason even treated the kids to a special pump up video that the coaches made for the Caps players.

The third session was conducted by strength and conditioning coach Mark Nemish who had the kids do different types of exercises puts the players through, including different lunges and squats. Nemish also talked to the kids about the importance of strength and conditioning.

The final session was the equipment session where kids were able to try on different hockey gear. The kids were able to see get a feel for how much padding each player wears for a game and how protected they are when they go into the boards or block a shot.

The night ended with a pizza party with Caps mascot Slapshot. To learn more about the Caps Kids Club, CLICK HERE.
