The Washington Capitals raised $18,030 through the team’s Fall Puck Surprise, which took place at the Caps game against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 5. The fundraiser featured 450 pucks that were packaged with Hershey’s Kisses and signed by various Capitals players and sold for $40 each. The pucks went on sale at 6 p.m. when the doors opened to Verizon Center and sold out in an hour.
Andrea Bigelow, Justin Blankenship, Beth Dunn, Bruce Werts and Mark Wines were the Fall Puck Surprise winners. The five winners selected unsigned pucks and therefore got to meet Caps center Marcus Johansson. Johansson signed their pucks and took photos with all of the winners.
All proceeds from the Fall Puck Surprise benefit Washington Capitals Charities and will be donated to the schools the Capitals adopted this season, including Powell Elementary School in Washington, D.C.
