Capitals Host Fifth-Annual Hockey \u2018n Heels
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals teamed up with MIX 107.3 to host the popular Hockey ‘n Heels on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va. MIX 107.3 radio personality Chilli Amar emceed the event, which ran from 6-9:15 p.m.  The fifth-annual event featured instructional lessons and on-ice demonstrations targeted towards the Capitals’ female audience. This year’s Hockey ‘n Heels sold out in five minutes, with more than 250 women participating.

The evening was divided into four sessions, highlighted by on-ice demonstrations with instructions from Karl Alzner, John Carlson, Marcus Johansson and Braden Holtby.  Alzner, Carlson and former Capital Peter Bondra taught the ladies how to shoot a slapshot and Caps alumnus Paul Mulvey demonstrated how to take a faceoff. Holtby showed the ladies how to stop Johansson’s shot in net. While waiting for their turn on the ice, participants were able to see and try on different hockey equipment. Hockey ‘n Heels used both sheets of ice at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, giving the women an opportunity to spend more time on ice.

The second session was something new this season with Caps’ strength and conditioning coach Mark Nemish explaining what fitness routines the players go through. Nemish had the ladies doing lunges and taught them the proper way to do squats.

The third session was head coach Bruce Boudreau’s famous film talk. Boudreau helped the ladies understand how to dissect and analyze different aspects of the game. At the end of his video session participants were able to ask Boudreau questions about the game.

The fourth and final session was in a locker room where there was a locker setup with the Winter Classic uniform and equipment. The ladies got to take their picture in front of the locker stall.

Just like last year, this year’s event was only opened to members of Club Scarlet, the Capitals’ female fan club. To learn more about Club Scarlet go to http://scarlet.capitals.com/.
