Sporting Generosity names Mike Green the January 2011 Player of the Month
WASHINGTON DC, January 13, 2011 – Sporting Generosity, an organization that identifies the contributions made by professional athletes for the community, has named Mike Green of the Washington Capitals the January 2011 Player of the Month.    Since 2008, Mike Green has partnered with a DC radio host in creating the “So Kids Can” program. This charitable program has been aimed at helping both sick and disadvantaged youth. Grants of approximately $30,000 and $65,000 have been made to Pediatric Prosthetics and Dr. Bear’s Toy Closet at the Children’s National Medical Center, respectively.

As part of his efforts to provide $75,000 in 2011 to DC based KaBOOM!, a charity that builds playgrounds in underserved communities, Mike recently hosted a charity concert which feature the group G. Love & Special Sauce. The concert was held on December 13, 2010, with all profits benefiting the So Kids Can program.

Outside of the So Kids Can program, Mike is very active with his own community initiatives as well as those of the Washington Capitals. For the past four years, Mike has “adopted‐a‐family” to provide gifts and necessities for in‐need families. This past Christmas day, Mike and his parents visited a single mother and her five children in the Washington DC area to provide gifts, clothes, shoes, and holiday cheer.

When asked about his desire to be involved in the community, Mike said, "For me, I just want kids to be happy. Playing on the playground or having a playroom when you're in the hospital, it just puts smiles on kids' faces."
