Hockey is for Everyone and Zebras Care
The Washington Capitals celebrated the NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone Night at their game against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, Feb. 8. The NHL created the Hockey is for Everyone initiative to celebrate the sport’s growth and diversity. As part of this initiative, the Capitals hosted several kids from the Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club at the game on Tuesday. The Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club is a developmental program that allows local and inner-city youth to participate in an organized ice hockey program.

The kids from the Fort Dupont Cannons ice hockey team had the opportunity to meet with the on ice officials prior to the game through the National Hockey League Officials Association (NHLOA) Zebras Care program. The NHLOA formed the Zebras Care program in hopes of providing the opportunity for charitable children’s groups to meet NHLOA members and to attend a live NHL game. The officials took photos with the group, allowed them to try on their uniform shirts and gave each of the kids an official NHL puck. After meeting with the officials, the kids from Fort Dupont were treated to the game in the Green’s Gang and Ovi’s Crazy 8s sections.

Hockey is for Everyone
The NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone initiative provides support to developmental ice hockey and street hockey programs as a positive and meaningful outlet for children and young teens to learn, compete and grow. The initiative provides access to unique hockey experiences to more than 300,000 children annually in more than 30 nonprofit youth ice hockey organizations and 1,600 schools and community centers across North American as part of the NHL Street grass roots program.
