Capitals Visit Children’s National Medical Center
Players color and play games with patients in the hospital’s atrium

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Five Washington Capitals players – Nicklas Backstrom, Jason Chimera, Eric Fehr, Scott Hannan and Brooks Laich – visited Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Feb. 24, to spend time with patients.
The players colored, played video games and played the card game UNO in the hospital’s atrium before heading upstairs to visit children who weren’t healthy enough to leave their rooms. There they played video games, UNO and took pictures with the patients. The players also passed out pencils, dog tags, key rings, tattoos and signed player cards. The patients ranged from one year old to 18 years old.
“This visit is something I look forward to,” said Eric Fehr. “To see their faces light up when we play with them is priceless.” “Just to be able to take them away from their day and let them have a little fun is what it is all about,” said Jason Chimera.
This was the second visit the Capitals made to Children’s National Medical Center this month, as several players’ wives and girlfriends made valentines with patients in the hospital’s atrium on Feb. 7. The Capitals players along with their wives and girlfriends have made a tradition of visiting the Children’s National Medical Center each season. This was the 11th consecutive season the Capitals have visited the hospital.
