Capitals Recall Jay Beagle and Todd Ford from Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled center Jay Beagle and goaltender Todd Ford from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In addition, the Capitals assigned center Mathieu Perreault to Hershey.

Beagle, 25, has played in 22 games for Washington this season, registering three points (two goals, one assist) and six penalty minutes. The 6’3”, 210-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, has collected 14 points (eight goals, six assists) and 26 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Bears this season.

Beagle has appeared in 32 career NHL games for the Capitals, posting five points (three goals, two assists) and 10 penalty minutes. He also played in 66 games for the Bears during the regular season last season, collecting 35 points (16 goals, 19 assists) and 25 penalty minutes while also recording nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 21 playoff games. Beagle was signed as a free agent by the Capitals on March 26, 2008.

Ford has split this season with Hershey and the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL). Ford posted a 5-4-1 record with a 3.14 goals-against average and a .879 save percentage in 11 games with Hershey this season. In South Carolina, Ford has registered an 11-6-1 record with a 2.69 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.

The 26-year-old goaltender went 7-5-1 with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage in 15 games with Portland and Texas in the AHL last season. Ford went 18-7-2 with South Carolina last season and ranked fifth in the ECHL with a 2.79 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. Ford was selected to the First Team All-ECHL team and was voted the starting goaltender for the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game. Ford was drafted in the third round, 74th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Perreault, 23, has collected 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) and 20 penalty minutes in 35 games for the Capitals this season. The Drummondville, Quebec, native has also recorded 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) in 18 games with Hershey this season.

Both Ford (wears No. 40 for Washington) and Beagle (wears No. 83 for Washington) will be available for tonight’s game against the New York Islanders at Nassau Memorial Coliseum.
