ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals alumni Sylvain Cote, Yvon Labre and Errol Rausse visited 140 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students at Marley Middle School in Glen Burnie, Md., on Friday, April 1, to host the Capitals Hockey School program presented by Capital One Bank.

The one-hour assembly began with a question-and-answer session during which the students asked Cote, Labre and Rausse about their careers as professional athletes and their lives after hockey. The alumni also had a chance to talk to the students about how the sport has evolved since their playing days.

After the Q&A session, the alumni led a floor hockey clinic for the students, introducing them to basic hockey skills such as puck-handling, passing and shooting. Cote, Labre and Rausse demonstrated each skill, teaching the students proper techniques and giving them hands-on instruction.

The clinic concluded with two scrimmages in which the boys and girls faced off against each other and played alongside the Caps alumni. At the end of the hour-long program, the Capitals donated the set of floor hockey equipment to the school.

This was the 14th Capitals Hockey School presented by Capital One Bank visit this season. The Capitals host two Hockey School visits each month between September and May, donating street hockey equipment to each participating school.

This is the fourth-consecutive year the Capitals have conducted their Hockey School program. The Caps hosted more than 30 clinics and reached nearly 5,000 students the past three years. During the 2009-10 season alone, thousands of elementary and middle school students graduated from the program.
