Caps Host Pep Rally at St. Timothy School

Thursday, 05.05.2011 / 4:42 PM / Community

The Washington Capitals hosted a pep rally for 100 third and fifth-grade students on Wednesday, May 4, at St. Timothy School in Chantilly, Va. The school was selected as the round two winner of a Caps Pep Rally by submitting a photo showing their students “Rocking the Red” and holding up Capitals signs, giveaways and wearing cutout playoff beards as part of their entry for the Caps Sign Contest.

The hour-long pep rally kicked off with Capitals staff members congratulating the students, getting them excited for Game 4 and explaining what they were going to be doing. The students were divided into five groups and headed to their first station where they received Caps “Capitalize” playoff T-shirts. At each of the five stations, students had the opportunity to: participate in a street hockey scrimmage, test their shot accuracy at the Slapshot inflatable, help create banners to be hung above the Caps practice rink at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, take a photo with Slapshot and learn, ask questions about and try on hockey equipment.

At the end of the pep rally, students and teachers chanted “Let’s go Caps” as they posed for pictures alongside Slapshot with one of the banners they made. The two banners they created were hung above the Caps practice rink displaying St. Timothy School’s support for the team. The Caps also donated a set of street hockey equipment to the school and team photos for each of the students.
