Schultz, Woods and Sabourin Host Capitals Hockey School for Berwyn Heights Elementary School
ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals defenseman Jeff Schultz and assistant coach Bob Woods along with Capitals alumnus Ken Sabourin and Slapshot visited Berwyn Heights Community Center in Berwyn Heights, Md., on Tuesday to host the Capitals Hockey School presented by Capital One Bank.

The trio began the session by fielding questions from students in the community center’s gymnasium before leading a floor hockey clinic for 140 fifth and sixth-grade students. Woods, Schultz and Sabourin demonstrated their puck-handling, passing and shooting skills, taught students proper techniques and gave them hands-on instructions.

Two students volunteered to dress as goaltenders and tended the net for a fun scrimmage between boys and girls. At the end of the hour-long program, the Capitals donated a set of floor hockey equipment to the school.

“I thought the students had a lot of fun and picked up the skills relatively fast,” said Schultz. “This is the first school visit that I have attended where some of the kids actually play hockey, so you can see that Capitals Hockey School program is really making a difference.”

This was the 18th Capitals Hockey School visit this season and the third of the month. The Capitals host at least two Hockey School visits each month between September and May, donating street hockey equipment to each participating school.

This is the fourth-consecutive year the Capitals have conducted their Hockey School program. The Caps hosted more than 30 clinics and reached nearly 5,000 students the past three years. During the 2010-11 season alone, thousands of elementary and middle school students graduated from the program.
