Washington Capitals Win Hands On Greater DC Cares Nonprofit Impact Award

Arlington Va. - The Washington Capitals and Washington Capitals Charities were awarded the Hands On Greater DC Cares Nonprofit Impact Award, which recognizes the partnership and contributions made by a business partner to build the capacity of a nonprofit, school or community based organization better enabling them to serve, sustain and impact the community.
“We are extremely honored to be recognized for our efforts in the community,” Director of Community Relations Elizabeth Wodatch said. “Fort Dupont Ice Arena is vital to the community, offering free figure skating, hockey and speed skating lessons to economically disadvantaged children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn these sports. We are proud to partner with and support such a worthwhile organization.”
One of the many community programs the Caps hosted this season was the Servathon at Fort Dupont Ice Arena, a day of service intended to improve conditions at the rink in southeast Washington, D.C. Volunteers went to work on projects that included waxing the boards, cleaning the glass, painting the lobby and hallway behind the bleachers, cleaning hockey equipment, putting together goals and organizing hockey equipment.
Hands On Greater DC Cares is the leading and largest coordinator of volunteerism in the region. Hands On Greater DC Cares comprehensively mobilizes volunteers and strengthens the capacity of nonprofits to better impact communities and the key issues in the Greater D.C. Region. Hands On Greater DC Cares works with a network of 840 nonprofits, 32,000 volunteers and a host of corporate and foundation partners working together to positively impact the region.
