ICE CHIPS: School is in Session
Rookie camp is an important week in the development of the Capitals’ prospects. Many of these players will be competing for spots on the Hershey Bears, Washington’s American Hockey League affiliate, and some NHL ice-time isn’t out of the question.
At last year’s rookie camp, center Marcus Johansson impressed the Capitals staff so much that he was invited to skate in the team’s training camp. Johansson used a strong showing in camp to propel him to his first season in the NHL, where he skated in 69 games and recorded 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists).
Six players skating in the Capitals rookie camp have AHL experience including four that have skated for Hershey (David de Kastrozza, Cody Eakin, Garrett Mitchell and Dmitry Orlov).
Training camp is scheduled to begin with on-ice sessions on Saturday, Sept. 17. Select rookie-camp attendees will be invited to participate in training camp.
As always, fans are welcome to attend every practice, free of charge.
