Capitals Re-Sign Left Wing Jason Chimera

ARLINGTON, VA.
– The Washington Capitals have re-signed left wing Jason Chimera to a two-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Chimera, 32, recorded 10 goals, 16 assists, 26 points and 64 penalty minutes in 81 games with the Capitals last season. In addition, he finished seventh on the team in postseason scoring with four points (two goals, two assists) in nine games.  Both of Chimera’s goals in the playoffs were game-winners, one of which was in double overtime in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals versus the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. It marked the longest playoff win (92:36) and the fifth-longest game in Capitals’ franchise history.

The 6’3”, 213-pound forward has played in 581 career regular-season games with Edmonton, Columbus and Washington, recording 215 points (98 goals, 117 assists) and 580 penalty minutes.  In 22 career playoff games, Chimera has tallied three game-winning goals, seven assists, 10 points and six penalty minutes.

Chimera was a fifth-round draft pick (121st overall) by Edmonton in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. The Edmonton, Alberta, native was acquired from Columbus in exchange for Chris Clark and Milan Jurcina on Dec. 28, 2009.
