Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin and Defenseman Mike Green Donate Season Tickets
ARLINGTON, Va. – Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and defenseman Mike Green continue their tradition of buying season tickets as part of Ovi’s Crazy 8s and Green’s Gang. Ovechkin has bought season tickets since 2006 and Green since 2008. The tickets are donated every game to Most Valuable Kids (MVK) who distribute them to either injured soldiers or active military members and their families; or to boys and girls, 18 and under, through numerous nonprofit organizations that focus on children in low-income and underserved households.

In five seasons Ovi’s Crazy 8s has provided nearly 2,300 children, soldiers and their families with the opportunity to see a Capitals home game free of charge. The 26-year-old captain purchases and donates eight Capitals season tickets, allowing fans who normally wouldn’t have access to tickets the opportunity to attend games. Ovi’s Crazy 8s sit in the lower level of Verizon Center and are recognized at home games. In addition, each person in the section receives a foam No. 8 and, after select games, participants have an opportunity to meet Ovechkin and get autographs and take pictures.

Green started Green’s Gang in 2008 after a breakout season in 2007-08 where he led all NHL defenseman in scoring. Green purchases seven Capitals season tickets and donates them to MVK.

In three seasons Green’s Gang has provided more than 1,000 children, soldiers and their families with the opportunity to see a Capitals home game free of charge. Following select games, he meets privately with Green’s Gang and signs autographs, answers questions and takes pictures with the attendees, providing them with a memory they will never forget.

About Most Valuable Kids, Inc.
The Washington Capitals have teamed up with Most Valuable Kids Inc., (MVK) to provide a unique opportunity for Capitals plan holders to donate unused game tickets to underserved children in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Tickets that would otherwise go unused are redistributed by MVK to boys and girls, 18 and younger, through various local nonprofit organizations. MVK’s mission is to help combat juvenile delinquency, promote an appreciation of athletics and culture and, most importantly, foster academic and social achievement by creating a merit system whereby participating recipient agencies can reward children for social and academic progress and accomplishment. This reward system of being able to attend professional and collegiate sporting events and cultural performances promotes self-esteem and illustrates to children the merits of philanthropy, personal discipline, determination and perseverance. MVK provides an avenue for building strong character among our local youth, while creating unforgettable memories at the same time. MVK is also proud to partner with nonprofit organizations that support active duty military and their dependents, especially soldiers recuperating at local military hospitals.
