ICE CHIPS: Off On The Right Foot
For the second game in a row, Washington would face a Southeast Division opponent when they hosted the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. In a back-and-forth affair, forward Jason Chimera scored two goals, including the 100th of his NHL career, and newcomer Troy Brouwer tallied his first goal as a Capital. Goaltender Tomas Vokoun earned his first win with Washington as the Capitals defeated the Lightning 6-5 in the shootout.
The Capitals will hit the road for their first road game of the season when they face the rival Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. The Caps went 3-0-1 last season against the Penguins, including their exciting 3-1 win in the Winter Classic at Heinz Field on New Year’s day. Pittsburgh enters the day with a 2-0-1 record and will face the Florida Panthers Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.
The Capitals will round out their week against the Ottawa Senators at Verizon Center on Saturday, Oct. 15. Washington will look to continue their home winning streak as they face a young Senators team that is still searching for their first win of the season. The Senators will play Minnesota Tuesday night in Ottawa.
