Alex Ovechkin, Dennis Wideman to Participate in NHL All-Star Game
Ovechkin to play in fifth-consecutive All-Star Game; Wideman to make his debut
Ovechkin, 26, will be making his fifth-consecutive NHL All-Star appearance, tying the Capitals club record (Peter Bondra). He currently leads the Capitals in goals (17), shots (156) and power-play goals (6) and ranks second on the team in points (33) and hits (133). His 156 shots rank seventh in the NHL.
Wideman, 28, will be making his first appearance at an NHL All-Star Game. The Kitchener, Ontario, native currently ranks fifth in the league among defensemen in points (29), tied for fourth in goals (8), tied for fifth in assists (21) and leads the Capitals in average ice time (24:08).
Ovechkin was selected, first overall, by the Capitals in the first round of the 2004 Entry Draft. Wideman was acquired from Florida in a trade on Feb. 28, 2011.
