Washington Capitals Alumni Rod Langway and Alan May Host Capitals Hockey School at Saint Joseph School
Washington Capitals ambassador and alum Rod Langway, fellow alum Alan May and mascot Slapshot hosted Capitals Hockey School on April 4 for 190 fifth- through seventh-grade students at Saint Joseph School in Herndon, Va.

The one-hour assembly began with a question-and-answer session during which Langway and May told the students about themselves and discussed their time in the National Hockey League. Students then had an opportunity to ask the alumni questions about their careers and the game of hockey.

After the Q&A session, the alumni led a floor hockey clinic for the students, introducing them to basic hockey skills such as stick-handling, passing and shooting. Langway and May demonstrated each skill, teaching the students proper techniques and giving them hands-on instruction. Several student volunteers were selected to try out what they learned in front of their peers. One student was chosen to try on the goalie gear.

The clinic concluded with several scrimmages in which the boys and girls faced off against each other before the Saint Joseph staff played against the Caps alumni and staff. At the end of the program the Capitals donated the set of floor hockey equipment to the school.

This was the 14th Capitals Hockey School visit this season. The Capitals host two Hockey School visits each month between September and May, donating street hockey equipment to each participating school.

This is the fifth-consecutive year the Capitals have conducted their Hockey School program. The Caps have hosted more than 50 clinics and reached more than 7,500 students in the past four years. Hockey School is a free program, designed to be both instructional and interactive, with the goal of exposing students to floor hockey while teaching proper hockey technique. Each school will receive an official Capitals Hockey School banner to display in their school year-round.
