Capitals Recall Mattias Sjogren
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled center Mattias Sjogren (MAT-tie-us SHOW-gren) from Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League (SEL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. 

Sjogren, 24, was loaned to Farjestad on Nov. 30 and recorded nine points (three goals, six assists) and 22 penalty minutes in 28 games. In 11 playoff games with Farjestad, Sjogren tallied four points (two goals, two assists) and his two goals tied for fourth on the team.

The 6’3”, 220-pound center appeared in 19 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season and recorded five points (two goals, three assists) in his first professional season in North America.

Sjogren spent the 2010-11 season with Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League, recording a career-high 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) and 44 penalty minutes in 51 games. Sjogren helped lead Farjestad to a SEL championship, registering nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 13 postseason games. 

The native of Landskrona, Sweden, represented Sweden at the 2011 IIHF World Championships in Slovakia, winning the silver medal while tallying four points (one goal, three assists) in nine games. He scored the game-winning goal versus USA in the preliminary round.

Sjogren will participate in practice with Washington on Wednesday morning. He wears No. 33 for the Capitals.
