On October 20, 1990, the Washington Capitals blanked the New Jersey by a 4-0 score in front of 15,521 fans at the Capital Centre.

John Druce’s fourth goal of the year provided all the scoring the Caps would need at 3:08 of the first period. Just over two minutes later, Dale Hunter’s power play goal – his third of the season – stretched the Caps’ lead to 2-0. Washington put a total of 17 shots on New Jersey’s Chris Terreri in the first while the Devils had 15 shots on the Caps’ Don Beaupre.

The second period was scoreless. The Caps had just four shots on goal while New Jersey had only seven.

In the third period, Calle Johansson netted his second of the season, a power play goal at 8:20. At 17:30, Johansson closed out the scoring with his second of the game and third of the season. The Caps outshot the Devils by a 15-5 margin in the third period.

Beaupre earned first star honors in recording his first shutout of the season, a 27-save effort. Johansson took second star with a pair of goals and an assist. Mike Ridley’s two assists were enough to get him the third star designation.
