This Date in Caps History - November 2

On November 2, 1996, the Washington Capitals obtained left winger Chris Simon in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche. Inexchange for Simon -- who was a contract holdout at the time -- the Capitals gave up right wing Keith Jones and their first and fourth picks in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. The Avalanche selected Scott Parker with that first pick in 1998 and the other pick was later traded back to Washington, which selected KrysBarch.

Simon played 348 games with the Capitals, scoring 76 goals and 155 points. He accumulated 720 penalty minutes. On November 1, 2002, Simon was traded to Chicago by Washington along with Andrei Nikolishin for Michael Nylander, Chicago's 3rd round choice (Stephen Werner) in 2003 Entry Draft and future considerations.
