Metro Conducting Major Track Work This Weekend

Washington, D.C. - Customers traveling on Metro during the December 7 to December 9 weekend will encounter delays on the Red, Green, Yellow, Orange and Blue lines starting on Friday, Dec. 7 at 10:00 p.m. through closing on Sunday, Dec. 9. Travelers are being asked to add up to an hour to their commute if they are attending the Georgetown or Wizards games on Saturday, Dec. 8. Street closures on December 6 for the National Christmas Tree Lighting may affect travel to the AHL Washington Showcase between Hershey and Norfolk at Verizon Center at 7:00 p.m.

Metro:
On the Red line free shuttle buses will replace trains between the Fort Totten and Glenmont stations to allow for track renewal, signal improvements, platform reconstruction and fiber optic cable installation. Five stations will be closed: Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont. Customers should allow up to one hour of additional travel time.

On the Green line free shuttle buses will replace trains between the Archives and Waterfront stations to allow for switch replacement near L'Enfant Plaza, as well as tie replacement and fiber optic cable installation. There will be no Green line service at L'Enfant Plaza.

On the Yellow line there will be no service this weekend between the Fort Totten and Archives stations due to bridge work on the Yellow line bridge over the Potomac River - including the structure's annual inspection - as well as switch replacement outside L'Enfant Plaza. Yellow line trains will operate instead via the Blue line (through the Rosslyn tunnel) between the Huntington and Eastern Market stations. Trains will operate every 24 minutes; Blue line trains will provide additional service. Customers traveling to or from Yellow line stations from the Fort Totten to Archives stations should use Green line trains to complete their trip. If traveling to or from Yellow line stations in Virginia, consider transferring between the Gallery Place and Metro Center stations using a Red line train.

Orange line trains will single track between the Stadium-Armory and Cheverly stations to allow for platform reconstruction, and between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations for work associated with the Silver line extension project.

Blue line trains will single track between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road stations to allow for repairs to the floating concrete slabs beneath the rails. Riders planning to take the Metro to the Georgetown Hoyas game against the Towson Tigers or the Washington Wizards game against the Golden state Warriors on December 8 at Verizon Center should prepare to add upwards of an hour to their commute.
