On Dec. 10, 1995, the Caps took on the Jets in Winnipeg, playing their final game at the old Winnipeg Arena.

Washington skated off with an easy 6-1 victory, getting a hat trick from left wing Steve Konowalchuk.

Konowalchuk got the Caps started early, scoring his first goal of the game at 1:25 of the first withhelp from Michal Pivonka and Peter Bondra. Keith Jones netted his 10th goal of the season for the Caps at 3:50 of the first, beating Winnipeg netminder Tim Cheveldae with Pivonka and Kelly Miller assisting.

The Capitals outshot the Jets 19-5 in the first and took a 2-0 lead into the middle period.

Konowalchuk netted his second of the night at 6:06 of the second, Joé Juneau collecting the lone assist.

Winnipeg got on the board minutes later when Eddie Olczyk notched his 12th of the season with help from Teemu Selanne and Kris King.

Bondra restored Washington’s three-goal lead at 4-1 when he tallied his 15th of the season at11:45 of the second. Pivonka and Jones assisted.

Each team had 10 shots on goal in the second.

Juneau extended the Capitals’ lead to 5-1 with a power-play strike at 14:45 of the third. Jones and Konowalchuk collected the assists. Konowalchuk completed his hat trick at 15:57 with his eighth goal of the season. Dale Hunter recorded the single assist.

Each team had 11 shots on goal in the third; the Caps outshot the Jets 40-26 on the night. Konowalchuk was the game’s first star, Jones the second and Pivonka the third. Jim Carey made 25 stops in the Washington nets to earn the win.
