On December 30, 1993, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim made their first ever visit to DC. The first-year expansion team - coached by Ron Wilson - came up on the short end of a 3-0 score before 17,616 fans at USAir Arena.

The Capitals scored once in each period. At 18:20 of the first, Mike Ridley scored his 13th of the season to give Washington the lead. The Caps launched 13 shots on Anaheim netminder Ron Tugnutt in the first while Washington's Rick Tabarracci faced only six. The first stanza was also highlighted by a pair of brawls. Anaheim's Stu Grimson took on Washington's Enrico Ciccone at 13:03 and the Ducks' Todd Ewen went at it with the Caps' Brian Curran at 16:35.

Ciccone scored his first NHL goal - with an assist from Dave Poulin - at 12:18 of the second to extend the Washington lead. The Capitals again outshot Anaheim in the second, this time by a 13-10 margin.

At 11:14 of the third period, Dmitri Khristich tallied his 19th goal of the season to close out the scoring. Anaheim edged the Caps in shots, 10-9, but the Caps outshot Anaheim on the night, 35-26.

Ridley earned first star honors, Tabarracci was named second star and Ciccone's first NHL goal garnered him the third star designation.
