Capitals Prospect Report
Plymouth Whalers duo Connor Carrick and Tom Wilson connected on a game-winning goal against the Guelph Storm on Jan. 5. With 2:29 left in overtime Wilson found Carrick who put the puck past Storm goaltender Keegan Wilson. Carrick’s goal secured their fourth consecutive win. In the second period Wilson also assisted on teammate Garrett Meurs’s goal for a two-assist game. On Jan. 9 the Whalers played the Saginaw Spirit, suffering a 6-5 loss. Both Carrick and Wilson contributed a goal and an assist each in the defeat. They will face the Brampton Battalion on Jan. 11.

Taylor Stefishen helped the University of Calgary sweep the UBC Thunderbirds this past weekend. The Dinos won both games, including a decisive 6-2 win on Jan. 4. Stefishen recorded two goals and one assist in the Jan. 4 game. The wins over the Thunderbirds improved the Dinos’ standing in the Canada West Conference to fourth place. Stefishen and the Dinos will face the Regina Cougars this Friday (Jan. 11) and Saturday (Jan. 12). The Dinos have spilt one win and one loss against the Cougars this season.

Three Washington Capitals prospects faced off in an exciting matchup between the No. 1-ranked University of Minnesota and No. 2 Notre Dame. Travis Boyd and the Gophers ended up on top, winning 4-1. Fighting Irish skaters Thomas DiPauli and Austin Wuthrich were both held without a point in the contest. For the Gophers, Boyd assisted teammate Sam Warning in a first-period goal. The game marked the 39th contest between the Gophers and Irish, with Minnesota having the better record of 23-13-3. Boyd will return to the ice on Jan. 11 against the University of Alaska-Anchorage, while DiPauli and Wuthrich will face-off against Michigan State University.

Riley Barber has returned from the World Juniors Championship with a gold medal as well as the distinction of being Miami University of Ohio’s athlete of the week. This is the third time in his debut season that Barber has been recognized as a leader of the Redhawks. Despite missing two games, he leads the team in points, as the freshman sensation has eight goals and 14 assists for a total of 22 points. Barber will play his first game back with the Redhawks on Jan. 11 against Northern Michigan University.
