On February 2, 1994 the Washington Capitals downed the Philadelphia Flyers by a 5-2 score in before a gathering of 8,312 at the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, Ohio. This was the second of two neutral site games involving the Capitals in the 1993-94 season.

Kevin Hatcher put the Capitals on the board first with an unassisted goal at 11:19 of the first period. Philly’s Eric Lindros answered at 15:51 when he tied the game with a power play goal. The Caps put 10 shots on Philadelphia goaltender Dominic Roussel in the first period while the Flyers answered with six on Washington’s Don Beaupre.

The Flyers took a 2-1 lead when Mark Recchi scored at the 4:41 mark of the second period. The Philadelphia lead was short-lived; Dale Hunter scored less than a minute later to even the score at 2-2, Peter Bondra and Shawn Anderson assisting. The Caps bested Philadelphia 14-8 in second period shots on goal.

The Capitals retook the lead when Pat Peake scored at the 36-second mark of the third period. Kelly Miller and Sylvain Cote earned the assists on what would prove to be the night’s game-winning goal. Steve Konowalchuk potted an insurance tally with help from Cote and Craig Berube at 2:33. Todd Krygier closed out the scoring with a goal at 14:53, assisted by Dmitri Khristich and Mike Ridley. The Caps outshot the Flyers 15-11 in the third period and 39-25 on the evening.

Hunter was the game’s first star; he scored the tying goal. Beuapre’s 23 saves were enough to earn him the second star and Ridley took third star honors with an assist. With two assists, Cote was the Caps’ lone multiple-point man on the night.
