PrintOn February 21, 1993, the Capitals scored three power play goals and a shorthanded goal to beat the St. Louis Blues 5-2 at the Capital Centre.
Mike Ridley scored on the power play at 9:06 of the first to give the Caps a lead they would not relinquish. The goal-Ridley's 20th of the season-was assisted by Peter Bondra and Pat Elynuik. The Caps outshot the Blues 10-7 in the first.
Todd Krygier gave Washington a 2-0 advantage early in the second when he scored an unassisted goal while the Caps were down a man. Craig Janney answered for St. Louis when he beat Don Beaupre at 6:05 of the middle stanza. With just 12 second left in the second, Ridley scored his second power play goal of the game to restore Washington's two-goal margin.
Early in the third period, Sylvain Cote scored his 17th of the season-the Caps' lone even-strength goal of the night. Kevin Hatcher's 24th goal came on the power play at 13:46 and gave the Caps a 5-1 bulge. With just 1:45 remaining in the game, Brett Hull scored on the power play to make it 5-2. The goal was Hull's 43rd of the year.
The victory was the 95th of Beaupre's Capitals career, putting him one ahead of Al Jensen for the team's all-time lead. Olaf Kolzig recently passed Beaupre - who had 128 wins as a Cap - atop the team's all-time list.
