Capitals Recall Strachan From Hershey

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Tyson Strachan from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Strachan, 29, made his Capitals debut on Nov. 15 against Detroit. The Melfort, Saskatchewan, native played in five games with Washington this season. Strachan played in 38 games with the Florida Panthers last season, compiling four assists and 40 penalty minutes. The 6’3”, 210-pound defenseman has appeared in 125 career NHL games with St. Louis, Florida and Washington recording 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) and 129 penalty minutes.

Strachan has registered four assists and 22 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Bears this season. In 227 career AHL games, he has earned 72 points (12 goals, 60 assists) and 292 penalty minutes. Strachan spent four seasons at Ohio State University and was originally drafted by Carolina in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals signed Strachan as a free agent on July 8, 2013.
