Capitals Recall Center Michael Latta from Hershey
Defenseman Nate Schmidt re-assigned to Hershey
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have recalled center Michael Latta from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned defenseman Nate Schmidt to Hershey, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Latta, 22, made his NHL debut at Chicago on Oct. 1, earned his first NHL point with an assist on Nov. 2 against Florida and scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 15 at Detroit. The Kitchener, Ontario, native has registered four points (one goal, three assists) and seven penalty minutes in 16 career NHL games with Washington this season. The 6’0”, 212-pound center has played in 12 games with the Bears this season, collecting seven points (three goals, four assists) and 60 penalty minutes. In 143 career AHL games with Milwaukee and Hershey, Latta registered 73 points (27 goals, 46 assists) and 360 penalty minutes. Latta is expected to be in the lineup today against the Philadelphia Flyers at Verizon Center.
Schmidt, 22, made his NHL debut at Colorado on Oct. 12, registered his first NHL point with an assist at Calgary on Oct. 26 and scored his first NHL goal on Dec. 7 against Nashville. The St. Cloud, Minn., native tallied six points (two goals, four assists) and six penalty minutes in 28 games with the Capitals this season. The 6’0”, 198-pound defenseman appeared in one game with Hershey this season, scoring a goal against Adirondack on Oct. 5. Schmidt has appeared in nine career AHL games with the Bears, recording five points (two goals, three assists) and two penalty minutes.
