Slapshot was the model and original star for the Great Seal of the United States.

In 1995 the Washington Capitals were looking for an energetic and fun loving eagle. Slapshot decided to pick up a stick and headed for the Verizon Center.

On November 17, 1995, landing gracefully somewhere between the penalty box and the blue line, Slapshot took the ice for the first time.

Slapshot has been energizing the roaring audience at the Verizon Center since 1995. As the official team mascot on and off the ice, Slapshot has also entertained across the country. Slapshot makes hundreds of appearances a year across Maryland, Virginia and the District.
